What is Tatcha?
Founded by Vicky Tsai, Tatcha was born out of a sensitive skin condition—stress-induced dermatitis—that Tsai suffered from after years of working in a highly pressurized role in the corporate world. Struggling to find a skincare solution that worked, Tsai decided to launch her own skincare brand. Enter: Tacha.
Tsai, who is Taiwanese-American, drew inspiration from Japanese skincare after taking a trip to Kyoto where she encountered natural Japanese ingredients that helped to heal and restore her stressed-out skin. These ingredients—specifically rice, green tea and algae—now form the basis of Tatcha’s skincare line, a highly luxurious and curated collection of skincare essentials that are all formulated in Tokyo.

“We create our products like a couture dress,” says Tsai, “it can take us four years to develop a formula because sometimes we even grow the plant that’s needed.” The products are designed to suit every skin type and focus on supporting the skin barrier as opposed to overloading it with harsh, ‘trending’ ingredients.
